Developing New Ideas

I’m working on developing a whole new intellectual property, or IP for short. Basically a whole new world to fill with characters and a new story to have in that world. It’s a lot of fun, and one of my favorite things to do. I get pretty exhaustive about it, too. Those who know me can attest. I believe that the best world has no stone unturned. That way stories told there won’t miss opportunities to make themselves more believable, more cohesive, through depth. the more you know about a place, the better the stories you can tell about it!

I’m running into a bit of writer’s block, though. It’s the Tabula Rasa, or however you spell it. The blank slate. There is so much to close from; So many colors I can slap onto my canvas, that I am kinda overwhelmed with choices. I’ve been trying to narrow it down, but I am finding it mighty hard to commit.

It’s also why I haven’t finished anything this week. (Plus I had an awesome wedding to attend. That ate up some time…) What am I supposed to finish? What do I start? It’s a Β conundrum. I’ll tweet about things as I figure it out.

Making New Stuff

Whatever the reason is; I really enjoy making new, original characters a lot more than I enjoy drawing existing characters. I’m certainly not against drawing an existing character. I can draw a cool Spiderman, and it’s a lot of fun. Given the choice, though, I will always invest a lot more into something original, though. I’m not really sure why that is.

I know that there will come a point, hopefully sometime soon, where the things I “have to” draw and the things I want to draw won;t necessarily be the same thing. Hey, I love the idea of getting paid to do the thing I love. Don’t we all? in the meantime, I sure do love getting to draw for no money at all, and I love spending time coming up with new characters and world to populate. That being the case; that’s exactly what I’m going to be doing. πŸ˜€

I’ve got some new ideas I’m beginning to flesh out. My big objective thi stime is to make sure I come up with something pretty damned complete and immersive. One of my own personal complaint’s about Convergence is that the “production design” was lacking. I want my new intellectual property to bleed it’s concept. I am going to be spending a lot more time in character and costume developement. I’m working on a few “mannequins” right now that I can start draping costumes onto. I never really thought my college costume design courses would come in handy. Totally incorrect!

I’ll begin posting stuff as time goes on, of course. Here is what the new IP is going to be; Space Sci-Fi Samurai. Let’s see me achieve it!
